Ortigia: The historic heart of Siracusa
Ortigia island is a real historical and artistic tresure chest. Walking through the narrow streets, you can admire the Apollo Temple, one of the most ancient doric temples in Sicily, Piazza Duomo, with its magnificent cathedral built on the basis of a Greek temple, Fonte Aretusa, the island’s main source of fresh water, Maniace Castle, built by the emperor Frederick II of Swabia during the 12th century, the Ipogei of Piazza Duomo, dating back to the Greek-Roman period, the Crypt of Saint Philip the Apostle Church, with the ancient Jewish bath and the areas used in 1943 as air raid shelters.

Archaeological Park of Neapolis
A must-stop to really dive in the history of ancient Siracusa. Here you can visit the Greek Theater, one of the biggest and most important ones in history, the Latomia of Paradise and Dioniso’s Ear, picturesque remains of a huge pit created by the Greeks.
An extraordinary example of ancient military architecture, built in the 4th century BC in a dominant position on the hill behind Syracuse, the Euryalus Castle is the only remaining Greek fortress in the world. Another exciting site is the Catacombs of San Giovanni dating back to the 4th century AD.

Noto
Built after the 1693 earthquake, it is considered the capital of Eastern Sicily Baroque. It is part of the Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site: a rare gem of Sicily.

Necropolis of Pantalica
Archaeological site which encloses 5.000 rock-cut tombs, dating back to the Bronze and Iron Age, it’s a fascinating stop for those who love the ancient history and trekking in the nature.

Marzamemi
Pictureque village famous for its tuna fishery, one of the oldest in Sicily, it has been used as a set for numerous films.

Vendicari Wildlife Oasis Oriented Nature Reserve
You can find it between Noto and Marzamemi, in a marshy coastal strip of fundamental importance for migratory birds such as waders and flamingos, this is where they rest coming from Africa. Well maintained and easily accessible to anyone.

Cavagrande of Cassibile Natural Reserve
It is a canyon hosting waterfalls and natural pools perfect for bathing in the summer, ideal place for lovers of medium-difficulty trekking.
